Welcome to Wells Elementary School! PDF Print E-mail

Dear Parents:

It doesn’t seem possible that we will soon be nearly halfway through the school year. Time marches on!

I want to first of all thank you for attending our most recent parent-teacher conferences. Our turnout was good, and it provided an opportunity for us to share how well your children are doing. Our teachers collaborate weekly and have conversations about the progress of your sons and daughters. They collect lots of data to assure that your children are making good academic progress. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or me.

We are also in the process of completing our building-wide School Improvement Plan. When completed, this document will be on our school website. You are welcome to take a look at it and provide feedback to us. Thank you!

We are also continuing to implement the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) in our school. We want to make certain that our students know what our expectations are and continue to reward and acknowledge the many boys and girls who make good choices each and every day. Last week many of our students had an opportunity to enjoy Zumba lessons in the gym. It was fun and great exercise for our boys and girls!

We had a record crowd at our most recent skating party. Thanks to all who were able to come and also to our PTA for sponsoring this event. There will be another skating party within a couple of months.

We once again look forward to our boys and girls singing at our upcoming holiday programs. Please note that our pre-school and kindergartners perform on Tuesday, December 13 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Our students in Grades 1-4 will perform on Friday, December 16 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  We always have a great turnout for this special event. Our boys and girls look forward to performing for our school community!

I have a couple of reminder items that I would like to share . . .

Please sign your child’s school planner each and every night. This is one of our main communication tools between school and home. Thanks!

If you are dropping your child off for breakfast in the mornings, please do so by 8:20 a.m. at the latest so they can get to class on time.

Fridays continue to be Wells School Spirit Days! Feel free to have your sons and daughters wear their school colors on this day!

I hope that you and your families have a most enjoyable holiday season. Thanks for your continued support of our school!
Sincerely,

Mr. Jim O’Brien

MAP Testing

During the period of January 11 - 15, 2010 all 2nd - 4th grade students will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Science. Your child will take the tests on a computer.

We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
