Principal's Message

A note from the Principal
Wells School is off to a great beginning! We currently have over 320 K-4 students registered and our numbers seem to be growing every day. That number will increase significantly soon as our preschool program officially begins on September 1.

Our school recently received notification that we were the winner of the East Moline Library Summer Reading Program! We had more students read more books than any other school in the area. Congratulations to our boys and girls. A huge thanks also goes out to our parents for providing this opportunity for our students. Our school will soon be given a trophy by the library in recognition of this accomplishment.

I want to thank everyone for stopping at our office when you come to our school. This is simply a safety procedure to assure that we are aware of who our visitors are that are in the building.

In regards to our dismissal procedure, all car riders and walkers are dismissed when the bell rings at 2:55 p.m. each day. Shortly thereafter we announce when each individual bus arrives and the students board the buses. This new procedure will hopefully make for a bit more orderly dismissal. We ask that all parents who come into the building at dismissal time congregate in our front hallway area. Thank you!

We will generally be sending notes home with the students on Wednesday again this year, so please make certain to check your sons and daughters backpacks. We will do our best to communicate important events to you in a timely fashion so you can get them on your busy calendars.

I hope that you can join us for the PTA Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. This will be a great opportunity for our school community to get together as we begin another school year.

I look forward to working with you and your children this year. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks for your continued support!

Mr. Jim O’Brien
Principal

MAP Testing

During the period of January 11 - 15, 2010 all 2nd - 4th grade students will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Science. Your child will take the tests on a computer.

We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
